CD Grade

CD Grade is a monograde diesel engine oil based on mineral base oil, formulated with a high alkaline reserve (TBN). Available grades: CD 40, CD 50. API lists CD as obsolete: it is not suitable for most diesel automotive engines built after 1994.

Overview

CD Grade is a monograde diesel engine oil based on mineral base oil, formulated with a high alkaline reserve (TBN). Available grades: CD 40, CD 50. API lists CD as obsolete: it is not suitable for most diesel automotive engines built after 1994.

Each grade is listed separately in the specification table with its viscosity at 100 °C, viscosity index, flash point, pour point, density and base number, so grades can be compared directly before ordering.

Application

Road-construction machinery

Diesel machinery in road construction, as named in the product's source documentation.

Application

Naturally aspirated diesel vehicles

Non-supercharged diesel vehicles in normal working conditions whose manuals specify API CD.

Feature

Published values by grade

CD 40: KV100 15.5 cSt, VI 100, TBN 10, pour point -15 °C; CD 50: KV100 19 cSt, VI 100, TBN 10, pour point -12 °C.

Feature

Alkaline reserve for corrosion control

The catalogue positions this oil around its alkalinity; each grade publishes a TBN of 10 mg KOH/g.

Feature

Choice of viscosity grades

2 grades in one product line, so a fleet can standardise on one API level across different climates or engine requirements.

Questions

Which grade should I choose?

Use the SAE grade in the engine manual for your ambient temperature range. Multigrade oils (such as 15W40) cover a wider temperature range than monograde oils (such as SAE 40 or 50).
